Solar parks - Province of Groningen, The Netherlands

The generation of solar energy is one of the priorities of the Energy Transition program of the province of Groningen.

In order to achieve the ambitious objectives, initiatives for solar parks are supervised, with the aim of involving society and preserving spatial quality and biodiversity.

As project leader Spatial Planning and Solar Energy I was involved in:
- The (co-)drafting and fine-tuning the policy for solar parks of the province of Groningen;
- Shape the development of solar parks in strategic policy from an area-oriented approach, in close collaboration with stakeholders;
- Supporting and supervising the spatial integration of solar parks in collaboration with the stakeholders, from a role as environmental manager;
- Keeping an eye on developments within this field and responding to national developments;
- Organize an annual work conference in order to align policy and implementation with the activities of municipalities, network operators, social organisations, developers, energy cooperatives and local initiators.
